Another shooting in a crowded place by a man bent only on mayhem. From Oregon Live:

An unidentified gunman, acting alone, fired up to 60 shots before killing himself. The original reports of two dead were confirmed as the only fatalities. One 15-year-old Portland girl was taken by ambulance to OHSU Hospital, where she was in serious condition Tuesday night. 

Officials declined to identify the victims. 

The gunman died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Lt. James Rhodes, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said at a news conference. The gunman, reportedly 22, has been tentatively identified, but police did not release his name. 

While he was likely deranged the part that haunts me is that this guy knew full well what he was fixing to do. This wasn't random. He allegedly posted this on 4chan, warning that something would happen. 

That a 15-year-old died is awful, but that anyone lost their life to this sociopath is tragic. 

Of course we're using this as an excuse to promote the banning of guns. From Twitchy:

In the good old days of the 24-hour news cycle, it used to take an hour for tragedies to become politicized. That is apparently not the case in the Twitter age. The gun control crowd didn’t waste a second before insulting the victims of the Oregon mall shooting. We don’t even know the identities of the dead, but already they’re being used as pawns in the morbid games of the anti-gun left.

We would much prefer to respectfully report the details surrounding this atrocity, but no, we’re talking about gun control already. So, to all of you out there pontificating, we beg you to stop this necrophilic theatre of the macabre and let people mourn in peace.

It's a damn shame, sure. And a tragedy. But using one deranged individual to infringe on the rights of millions more to protect themselves is a reach.
